Our health is inseparable from planetary health, and this understanding fuels my commitment to sustainability in healthcare. As the Medical Director of Sustainability at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center and the founding President of Sustain Health Solutions, I am dedicated to integrating environmentally responsible practices into healthcare. With my background in cardiology, I have witnessed how environmental factors directly impact patient outcomes, driving me to bridge clinical excellence with sustainability.
At Sustain Health Solutions, we help healthcare organizations achieve their sustainability goals by providing customized strategies that reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency, and foster a culture of care for both people and the planet. Our work ensures that healthcare delivery promotes the well-being of individuals while safeguarding the natural world that sustains us all.

Sourbha S. Dani, MD, MSc
As a preventative cardiologist and Fellowship Program Director in Massachusetts, I understand the critical role of environmental factors in heart disease and the need to incorporate sustainability, including value-based care, into physician education. This dedication inspired the creation of Sustain Health Solutions to align clinical care with environmental responsibility.
As a founding member, I am committed to helping healthcare institutions adopt sustainable practices. Our organization collaborates with hospitals and clinics to develop customized strategies that improve efficiency, reduce carbon footprints, and foster healthier environments for patients and healthcare workers.

Ajay Sharma, MD
I grew up in Punjab, India, where the land and nature are deeply ingrained in everyday life. Using resources to their fullest and minimizing waste was a natural part of my upbringing. As a physician and cardiologist, caring for critically ill patients, I’ve come to realize that to continue providing quality care for future generations; we must rethink our approach to how we live and work.
An amalgamation of common sense and science has shown us the necessity of reimagining how we build, consume, recycle, and transition toward a circular economy. As physicians, we guide our patients toward better health through treatment and lifestyle changes. It’s now time to also focus on the sustainability of the healthcare system itself, ensuring that our efforts today do not compromise the planet’s future.
